Camp 2008
Come join Southern Oaks Farm for a summer of riding. Learn the basics of owning
a horse and having fun while doing it.
Camp Southern Oaks accepts children ages 6 to 16. No prior riding
experience is necessary. Children are divided into groups based on their riding
skill level. Beginners receive a good foundation from which to continue their riding
experience, and more advanced riders have the opportunity to improve their skills
and knowledge.
Campers are assigned their own horse for the week. Campers learn to be responsible
for the daily care, grooming, and feeding of "their horse." Campers receive
a daily English riding lesson, along with lessons on veterinary care, safety, horse
show preparation, and other equine-related topics.
Camp
horses are well-schooled animals that are used in our year-round lesson program.
Stabling may be arranged for those who own their own horse. When not involved in
a hands-on horse activity, children participate in arts and crafts, and games relating
to the horse, such as a scavenger hunt and grooming contests.
Children should bring a sack lunch and a personal water jug. Proper attire includes
long pants or riding breeches, and boots with low heel. Riding helmets are supplied
for those who do not have their own.
